"I'm not paying twenty quid for a pair of knickers!"

This morning we went to Gainsborough to collect Paul’s new spectacle frames and before returning home he decided he wanted to go into Next to buy some pants and socks.  He entered the store and then did a quick u-turn declaring “I’m not paying twenty quid for a pair of knickers.”

It’s been a beautiful Spring like day in Lincolnshire.  This afternoon we drove to the village of  Nettleham for Paul to see an eye specialist.  While he was at the surgery Rick and I explored the village, and what a delight it was.  We walked past the church and through Vicar’s Wood before strolling alongside the babbling brook that runs along the High Street past quaint, stone built cottages.  Then I found a bench on the village green to sit and watch the world go by until Paul joined us again.

Paul had very yellow eyes (from the drops they used) but some positive news from the specialist.  Although there were some signs of a small bleed in both eyes (cause unknown) there was no indication of glaucoma so he just needs to be monitored on an annual basis.  He’s still recovering from the journey home; his vision was blurred so I had to do the driving.

  2. Nettleham is not far from the village where I spent my childhood and I still have a school friend who lives there. I agree it is a pretty village but much larger than it was when I lived in Lincolnshire.

  4. I probably had the same eye drops for a diabetes eye check-up in the UK. Not unpleasant, but they ruin your eyesight for the following few hours. Luckily no-one has suggested that I have it done here. Rick seems to like Nettleham; did he meet anyone there?.

    1. That's what I thought. Much better than a trip to the hospital though. And the village has got no less than three pubs.

  6. Perhaps the 'knickers' had red hearts all over them and the price will drop next week. It is fortunate that you are able to drive and get you all back home.

  7. Good news about the eyes.

Just off the other side of the A46, about 7 miles from Nettleham is a place called Snarford; there's no village, just a church and a couple of houses. The church is tiny, but it has a VERY surprising interior.

  8. Nettleham looks very pretty - I love a village with a stream running through it and remember one or two in Yorkshire like that when I used to go out on the mobile Library on a Dales run. Glad to hear that Paul's eyes are fine!

  9. I was based at Harrogate Library so it was mainly Nidderdale - so enjoyed the Mobile days as we were often invited in to farmer's kitchens for tea and home made cake!

    1. Oh and if Paul wants some free underpants, I can send him a few pairs of my cast-offs. Do you think he'd prefer them washed or unwashed?
