Blue skies and sunshine in Lincolnshire today but bitterly cold. Paul and Rick have been busy in the garden pruning the apple trees. This evening, just as dusk fell, Paul made a bonfire of the cuttings and other woody stuff that had been piled up in the garden. It burnt down incredibly quickly giving off a sweet, smoky scent. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed outside to play.
I am sure they were right banning you from venturing outside on such a bitterly cold day (it has been such a day here too) but I can imagine how frustrating it must have been to not be able to stand by that sweet smelling bonfire and give it the odd poke.
ReplyDeleteThere's something oddly satisfying about poking a fire.
DeleteBitterly cold in the east today, with snow flurries. I loved it and the bracing walk through Norwich. A very good day for a quick burn bonfire. Very sensible Paul.
ReplyDeleteHe was really pleased it all burnt down so quickly.
DeleteI know people who uses apple wood to smoke there meat with.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Lovely, it's a very fragrant smoke.
DeleteI have one that needs doing; I'm putting-off the task as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteIt was the ideal evening for one, dry and no wind.
DeleteHow does Rick hold pruning shears or secateurs in his paws? What a clever dog!
ReplyDeleteI hope that the neighbours also appreciated the aroma of burning apple wood.
He doesn't actually do the pruning silly, he just picks up the sticks and puts them on the bonfire. We made sure the neighbours were tucked up in their warm houses before making any smoke.
