Hare Brained Creativity

A mysterious parcel arrived for me a few days ago.  It was a gift from my daughter in Sydney and contained a big lump of mud!  It was a DIY pottery set.  Such fun!

This morning I cleared the decks and decided to have a play with the clay.  Not content with making a simple pot I decided to sculpt a hare.   I probably should have chosen a pot.

My weakness is impatience.  I ought to have studied several drawings of the anatomy of a hare before I started but I was keen to get stuck in.  So my hare’s head is rather too big for his body.  And the ears kept flopping over.  He looks rather more like a long eared dog than a star gazing hare.

his head is temporarily propped up and he has wires in his ears

I don’t have a kiln so it will take several days to dry.  I rather suspect his ears might drop off when I take the wires out.  But yes, it was fun and he is definitely one of a kind.

  1. I think you have more patience than I would have - and it does look like a hare, so well done.

  3. Wow - looks great! Can't you leave the wires in - just trim the ends so they don't show? Well done!

  4. That's a pretty good first attempt, Sue. You could have sculpted Rick - he would have made a good model!
I've always loved pottery, and even now have some clay stowed away - the sort that doesn't need firing.

  11. It is a damned good effort Sue and as you enjoyed the process why not have another go? Is it possible to do some drying out in your oven? Maybe you could google that.

  13. It looks very good, and it's wise to emphasise the head and ears. Is it that self hardening clay? What a good idea for a present.
