Yesterday

Our builder came yesterday to fix our leaking roof.  He hopped up onto the roof and just climbed up the tiles towards the high tower like it was a walk in the park.  No hard hat or safety harness. He gathered a whole bucketful of moss and debris from the gutter and the problem was solved.

I took Rick for a walk through the woods in the afternoon.  The hives were all dotted about and the bees were busy collecting nectar from the chestnut blossom; we gave them a wide berth. I spotted a solitary mushroom, I think it was a prized girolle.  I considered picking it but Rick had other ideas and galloped straight through it knocking pieces of mushroom in all directions.

The grass in the meadows is very high, it has been too wet for the farmers to cut but summer arrives on Tuesday and then I think they will be busy cutting and baling.

  1. Thank goodness the fixing of the roof didn't involve anything too complicated or costly! The view of your house is absolutely idyllic. -Jenn

    1. Paul could have fixed it if it was a bungalow but the roof here is so scarily high.

  2. Did you just stumble upon the house once when you were on holiday and decide to buy it or did you look at property web sites for ages?

    1. We spent months looking at properties on the internet and then booked a long weekend in September 1999 to go and view some. It was a crazy few days charging about the countryside and we looked at some really bad houses. We lost the one we wanted so this place was a consolation buy. We spent a whole half hour looking at it and bought it on a foolish impulse really.

  4. The good thing about Girolles is that they stay fresh in the ground for several days; unlike Cepes. There are loads around.

  5. The last picture is idyllic. You and Paul and your hairy son Rick are so lucky to inhabit such a peaceful and historic property.
