Flying South

The swallows were gathering on the wires this morning preparing for their long journey south into Africa.  Their restlessness is tangible and I can empathise with that, for in a week’s time Paul and I will be travelling again.  We will be driving north to start with, back for a three day stay in the UK before heading south to Australia.

The swallows’ journey is difficult, most choose to cross the vast Sahara desert where supplies of water and food can be patchy, it is a harsh test of survival. I am hoping our journey will be less perilous and strenuous but as a nervous flyer I will still find it very difficult.  Supplies of water and food can be patchy on long haul flights!

What? No seat upgrade or free peanuts?

  1. I don't think I could face that long flight these days. The longest flight I have ever done I think was Moscow to Khabarovsk - it seemed endless. Or maybe Heathrow to Beijing - I thought that would never end too.

    1. I'm not looking forward to the flight Pat, although we break the journey with a stopover in Hong Kong.

  4. We got to know each other when you were last in Oz. Your comments were very funny. I am not sure how you found me. I look forward to keeping in touch one way or another while you are there. I have not noticed the birds getting ready to fly south, maybe they have gone and we missed itx

  6. I always feel very emotional when I see the huge flocks of Cranes flying over. They are always so high-up, and the sound they make is very soulful. We always wave at them, and wish them a safe return. Mad, I know!
