We're off to sunny Spain...

Well, actually we’re not.  We awoke to another wet, grey day in France and decided on impulse that we would jump in the car and head south in search of sunshine, maybe somewhere near the coast between Barcelona and Valencia (about a seven hour drive). Paul scoured the internet but we were totally underwhelmed by all the identical hotels with concrete facades lined up along the seafront.  Then he found a nice little cortijo situated in a small inland town, only half an hour’s cycle ride down the mountain to the beach.  Two bedrooms and five bathrooms.  Why would you need five bathrooms?

“Shall we book it?”

“I‘m not sure.”

“I’ll book it.”

“Yes, let’s have an adventure.”

He contacted the Spanish owner but unfortunately the house was only available up until Sunday.  Too far to drive for just a couple of days.  Were we disappointed?  Actually I think we were both a bit relieved.  The sun’s going to come out soon.

  1. It seems to be raining in the UK, raining in France, raining in Italy (right now!) and, I presume, raining in Spain too. So stay put where you are, in that beautiful place of yours; the sun will shine again!

    2. No, Maria, it's not raining in Spain, in fact we could do with some rain, and the temperatures are those we normally get in late July or August.(Yes, I know - be careful what you wish for !)

    1. I'd rather have a yacht, less animals to feed.

  4. Philippe looks as if he is auditioning for the sequel to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"... perhaps "Le Dordogne Chainsaw Massacre"... I am not sure where you live in France.

  5. I got wet to the skin last night. Jump in the car and drive to Biarritz and surf and stay in a seafront hotel.

  7. Sue, try looking at Alistair Sawday's website. We have found some delightful small hotels in both France and Spain.

    1. I did have a quick look at Sawdays but I must have tapped in the wrong search word because it came up with a load of yurts! I should have another look.
