Feeling GIddy

I know I'm not supposed to be up here...

I had a strange giddy spell last evening.  I can’t blame it on the wine because I’d only had one glass but every time I moved my head just a fraction I felt dizzy and couldn’t keep my balance.  I staggered off to bed early and couldn’t even manage to read my book.  I kept my head very still and eventually fell asleep.  When I awoke this morning everything was back to normal so I expect it was a temporary disturbance of my balance sensors.  I hope it doesn’t come back, it was very unpleasant.

I was going to have a quiet day but somehow it’s turned out quite busy.  I took Rick out for his early morning walk.  The wind had blown over all the raspberry tubs so I picked them up and relocated them in a more sheltered spot.  It didn’t work, they got blown over again.  I stripped the bed and put a load of washing on.  Pottered about in the garden dead-heading roses and trimming some bushes in the driveway but it hasn’t really been a day for being outside.  Paul presented me with some salvia flowers that had been broken by the wind, I added them to the vase full of other garden casualties.  I washed some lettuce and boiled some beetroot, we are going to have a chicken salad for dinner tonight.  The chicken breasts are currently marinading in a garlic and herb concoction I threw together.

Rick has now been out for his second walk of the day and is fast asleep on his rug.  He doesn’t like being outside when it’s windy, I think the noise of the trees makes him nervous.  Our supermarket delivery is due shortly, it is very efficient and making us quite lazy.  We often used this method of shopping in the past when the children were young and we were both working full time but Paul is one of those people who love wandering around the supermarket aisles so eventually we will return to our pre-lockdown method of shopping.

Ah, the shopping has arrived.

  1. Maybe you should schedule a check up with your doctor, just in case? I hope that doesn't happen again and that it was nothing.

    1. If it happens again I might get it checked out. Or there again I might not!

  2. Could the dizzy spell be connected with all that opium you inhaled up at Redbourne Hall last week?
P.S. Jennifer's comment is more sensible than mine.

    1. Perhaps it's in the air with all this wind.

  4. I love the supermarkets now, they are so quiet and have an altogether different atmosphere. You should let Paul out to one so he can enjoy it while it lasts.

    1. He's not safe out on his own, he would buy everything in sight.

  5. It might be BPPV which I have. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. It relates to a crystal in the middle ear floating out of place. I can control mine which only involves my right ear by tilting my head to the left for a while. It is not dangerous.

    1. Yes, I was thinking it's probably something like this.

  6. That is a happy ad on the food truck. I am enjoying having food deliveries, I may keep doing that even when the crisis is over. We have been having some very windy days too, it is unpleasant to go out and I try to walk Bounce twice a day.

    1. It certainly saves a lot of time not having to drive to the supermarket. I could definitely get used to it!

    1. It's been ages since I went out in the car, a trip to the local garden centre weeks ago.

  8. if it returns, look up The Epley Maneuver. It's for when your inner ear / balance 'crystals/rocks' get out of position. I've used it many times. :)

If it persists, definitely see a doctor to rule out anything more serious. But bppv is very common as we age.

  9. Your balance problem could be vertigo. It's something that happens from time to time. I get it occasionally and have to lie down until it goes. Something to do with advancing years...!
No supermarket deliveries here, not even to existing customers. The minute it was announced that we would be going into lockdown, all the supermarkets immediately stopped delivering, leaving some housebound pensioners with no way of getting food. Fortunately the Red Cross stepped in to help out. We've also had offers from the banks too!
Rachel is right - go on, let Paul go to the supermarket. If he buys everything in sight, think what ammunition it will give you, next time you want something done!

    1. Our shopping deliveries have been excellent. Even Paul doesn't fancy queueing in the supermarket car park.

  10. I had a giddy spell the other day. More like light headed and woozy, caused by lack of fluids. Dehydrated because I forget to drink. A pint glass of dilute fruit juice sorted it.

    1. Yes, I get those sort of spells if I let my blood sugar fall too far. But this was definitely just something to do with my balance so more likely connected to crystals in my semi circular canals!

  11. I had something very similar a couple of weeks ago - totally without warning, gravity seemed to pull me down and I staggered about like a drunk fighting to stay upright, then I felt sick as things returned to normal. Afterwards I was fine. It was ascribed to the crystals. Must be something they are putting in the Lincolnshire water!

    1. I've started filtering the water! It was the same for me, came on totally out of the blue and I felt like someone had been spinning me around.
