A Quiet Day

We got up late today and chose not to go out for a cycle ride. Rather a cool and dull morning so I took advantage and cleaned some windows.  This house has fourteen windows so I tackle them gradually, a couple every day.  I’ve been putting it off until the pine pollen has died down a bit.  I watched the sparrows and nuthatch pecking away at the nut feeder while I was cleaning.  Then William Woodpecker arrived and rudely knocked them off their perch.  I know he’s William because he has a bright red patch at the back of his head.

I’m still building up courage to tackle the pine dresser.  The tin of red paint is demanding to be opened but I shall patiently wait for a rainy day.  Watch this space.

  1. I am intrigued. You are planning on painting the dresser red? I like red accents in a kitchen. Have a happy Easter! -Jenn

    1. Yup, I bought some Annie Sloan chalk paint (Emperor's Silk) when we were back in the UK, it's a very bright red that I shall probably tone down a bit with some wax to give it an antique finish. An experiment, I don't know how it will turn out.

  2. I had the same dresser once. I gave it away. It encumbered my life too much. It encouraged me to keep things. Perhaps if I had painted it a bright colour it would have taken on a life of its own instead of taking over mine.

    1. It's not a thing of value so it won't matter if I wreck it. The clutter gathers over the years.

    1. It's a job I hate but I do love clean, shiny windows.

  5. Will you have to change the china and bits and bobs to tone in with the red?
It's la cuisine so there should not be a patch of red on the back wall.

    1. I think I'll have to change the blue and yellow china.

  6. Whenever I clean the windows it always rains ! Even in the height of summer, when we're not supposed to have rain, I can guarantee we'll have a sandy rain downpour by evening. Last count we had 22 windows, 14 of which are large plate glass, so it's not a job undertaken lightly - or often !
Look forward to the photos of the red dresser.

    1. It's usually a good way to guarantee rain.

  7. May I suggest that Paul paints the dresser while you sit in the sun sipping wine as you flick through the pages of "Fifty Shades of Gray".

    1. That's precisely what I'm planning. Paul says I have to wait for a rainy day though.

  8. Having just checked the Meteo, it looks like you may have to wait until September to paint your dresser.
