No Water

“There’s no water coming out the tap.”
“Have you paid the water bill?”
“Of course.”
“Maybe they’ve cut us off because of Brexit.”
“Don’t be silly woman.”

It transpired that the whole of our hamlet was without water this morning so we just had to wait until the water board fixed the problem.  That meant there was a lot of jobs I couldn’t do so after vacuuming a few more flies in the house I went outside into the garden to pull some weeds. Paul was busy rotovating the potager ready for planting potatoes and onions.

By lunchtime I was hobbling around and in a lot of pain.  I get arthritis in my hip and it’s been quite bad lately.  I gave up in the end, took some Ibuprofen and set up my chair in a sunny spot.  We had lunch outside on the terrace and drank wine as there was no water.  The wine and pain killers have done the trick and I’m now perfectly comfortable as long as I don’t move too much.  It’s just so frustrating having to sit and look at the weeds.  I have a tendency towards OCD and I find it really hard to relax when the dandelions keep waving their fluffy yellow faces at me.

The water is back on now.

  1. Love the fact that you drank wine as there was no water!! We have this problem so often at our little house in Crete - we never know whether it's just us without water or the rest of the village but it is quite often us as we leave the house closed for long periods and the heat banjaxes the workings of the water tank etc. Giorgos the plumber is our most frequent visitor!

  3. How strange, my arthritic hip has been playing up too, and I'm hobbling round on the dog walks. I blame advancing years and the recent very damp weather. Our doctor has told my husband not to take Ibuprofen because it causes kidney problems, so now we're just relying on Paracetamol.
Good to see the gardener planting out - but wearing his NEW jeans - after all the high drama?

    2. She said They need a wash so wear them for today. I just did what I was told, like every other day.

  4. Wine and ibuprofen gel work wonders when my knee is bad so long as I don't get them muddled up of course

    1. I think Ibuprofen gel might make your tongue go numb but I haven't tried it.

    2. It is working wonders on my knee. At least I don't have to return to Macedonia for the massage that cured it last time (although I wouldn't mind, any excuse).

    3. I'll see if I can get some ibuprofen gel from the chemist. Do I rub it into the affected parts, then take a really good slurp of wine? Red or white - does it matter?

    4. Yes, rub it in as you describe. The wine is optional. The brand name of the gel is Ibuleve but Boots own make is a third of the price and has been just as effective.

  5. Ours didn't stop, just reduced in pressure. I believe a lot of people also lost their electricity; maybe the two events were linked. Your soil looks very good, and the gardener very efficient.

    1. Our electricity was flicking on and off the previous evening. The water was back by lunchtime.

  6. No water is not fun and neither is arthritis. Getting old is not fun.
Did I miss your visit to Alhambra?

    1. Like they say, growing old is not for sissies. Unfortunately we didn't get to look around Alhambra, access is restricted and we couldn't get tickets for the dates we were there. We did see it as we drive through the Sierra Nevada.
