Basking in Reflected Glory

Buddy reading his Australian Vegan Magazine

Being a parent brings both tears and joy.  You share their disappointments and their achievements.  Some theorists say that parents are sometimes inclined to transfer their own unfulfilled ambitions onto their child but in my case I think it’s a lot simpler than that.  If my girls are happy then I’m happy too and I just get a kick out of their successes, big or small.

This morning I am sharing Sarah’s delight in becoming a published author – she has had an article printed in the Australian Vegan Magazine (The Truth About Milk) and has been invited to be a regular contributor.  She was asked to write the piece after the magazine editor saw one of her blog posts.  Needless to say she is far better with words than me.

I was equally delighted to hear that Kat has now mastered the art of skating backwards and is fast becoming a competent member of the Ice Hockey Team.

My only achievements this week have been successfully cooking crispy, caramelised onions and having a conversation with Mr Irish.

    1. The onions were good but it takes about 45 minutes of careful cooking to get them to that sticky crunchiness.

    1. It's a convincing piece of writing, makes you think twice about drinking cows' milk.

  5. I wonder if my two Oz based vegans will read the article? They're both funny about Milk, and only ever drink 'nut' based concoctions.

    1. Veganism has a huge following with Australian youngsters. This is a newly launched magazine and could do well. Sarah was very unhappy when we kept cow's milk in her fridge, just couldn't get used to coconut or almond milk on our weetabix.

  6. I remember a 'different milk' promotion in York one week end where they were giving away free samples of it in pint or 1/2 lt plastic containers. Saturday went well but they could not give it away on the Sunday. Ours went down the sink!

  7. Of the two, I have more chance of becoming a vegan writer than an ice hockey player.

    1. Ice hockey looks like a load of fun, they wear so much padding it doesn't matter how many times they fall over.
