The Devil Finds Work For Idle Hands

Things are very quiet at the moment. This morning I am living dangerously by sticking a faux silk cushion cover in the washing machine – it says dry clean only.

There has been a light sprinkling of snow overnight; it is freezing cold but this doesn’t stop Mr Frost (that’s is really his name) getting outside with his bucket and sponge and washing his new white car.

The problem when things are quiet is that I start to dream up new projects.  Like getting a dog.  Like selling up and moving house.  Like buying a camper van...

“Why the hell did you share that ‘win a camper van’ on Facebook?”
“Because I might win a camper van?”
“Can’t you see it’s a scam you foolish woman, no-one is going to give fifty camper vans away as a prize.”
“Oops.”

I feel very stupid now.  What can I dream up next?

  1. I hate camping, but I would still like that camper van. True, you are not likely to win fifty camper vans, but it's fun to dream. What kind of rescue dog would you like to get? -Jenn

    1. I prefer to stay in luxury hotels but they probably wouldn't accept dogs! I'm keeping an open mind as to dog type but ideally something medium sized and scruffy.

    2. There are quite a few decent hotels that accept dogs, though there is often a charge. You will need to check out what size they will accept. A Buddy size would be just about perfect I would think.
Those are very smart camper vans, even I wouldn't mind one ! They are a far cry from the 50's and 60's flower power !

    3. I will have to research the doggy hotels.

  2. I'm catching up: hope you're feeling much better Sue. Sorry I missed your birthday on the 2nd. I'm a bit late but still, I wish you a happy birthday and many more!
I too, like Jenn, don't like camping. I don't feel safe.
    Greetings Maria x

  3. Are all the people in Calne named after weather phenomena? There's Mr Frost and Miss Snow, The Gales at Windy Nook, The Drizzles at number fourteen and of course Sue and Paul Aurora-Borealis in those posh flats round the corner from The Rainbows' house.

    1. Not weather related but we do have a Ms Tibbles next door (and she does have a cat). Mr Irish is not his real name but he comes from the Emerald Isle and I can't understand a word he says.

    1. Yes I do. I need to get back to my chateau.

    2. Having just lugged in enough wood to keep us going for today, and I did the same yesterday, and the day before and so on, I was thinking that if you over-wintered in the chateau you would have so much to do just to keep warm - you could also knit blankets - you wouldn't have time to be idle!

    3. I know exactly how many I would have to chop and carry indoors. We did it for two winters, but it did keep me fit.

    4. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Me, knit blankets, you're having a laugh! We have to carry our logs up a flight of steps so it's very good exercise.

    5. Blue Peter squares come to mind. No? My logs are cut to size so no wood chopping or chain saws.

  5. I suddenly rather fancy a VW Camper (nothing to do with your ad'). I like the idea of us just heading off with the dog, and 'doing' Spain or Portugal. It never appealed before.... I wonder what happened?

  6. What put me off the VW camper van was the fuel consumption of 18 - 20 mpg on a long run and only 12 mph around town. So much rather have a car and sleep in hotels while on tour.
