Cold, grey days

Nancy

No appointments today so I suggested to Paul that we should go for a nice long walk in the countryside to try and stay fit.  Maybe even attempt that long hike across the fields to the pub.  Then we looked out of the window.  Cold, foggy and grey.  It seems a bit pointless going for a walk without a dog.

So that’s how we ended up rolling the fake zebra rug back and doing some Tai Chi with Nancy.  I haven’t got a clue who Nancy is, in fact I’m don’t even think that’s her proper name, but we found something on YouTube that we are able to keep up with.  She's standing in front of a lake and there is nice tinkling zen music in the background.

It really is cold and wintry today so I’m looking forward to Paul’s broccoli and stilton soup with sour dough for lunch.  I just feel like hibernating right now.

it's grim outside

  1. Tai Chi with Nancy. Not a bad way to kill some time. It is grim here, too. Grim and cold. That soup sounds good! Cheese, particularly Stilton, is my husband's downfall. -Jenn

    1. Stilton is such a nice cheese to cook with. Good with a glass of port too.

  2. Heading into Australia Day ( or Invasion Day as the Aborigines call it)tomorrow and the temperature is going to be 34 here. I've been attempting to make an Aussie Vanilla Slice with passionfruit icing for the occasion. It's made, but now I have to work out how to cut it up with out turning it into a giant heap of puff pastry crumbs.
Sydney has had a real bettering with the heat since you left as you've probably heard.

    1. That vanilla slice sounds good. Yes, Buddy has been struggling with the heat although he does have an air conditioned office.

  6. I think we should all channel sunshine via Tai Chi with Nancy. It might work

  7. It is pointless going for a walk, on a miserable wet day - with or without a dog, but I wish someone would tell mine that we don't do walkies if it's chucking it down !

    1. Can't you just push them out the door and tell them to take themselves for walkies?

    2. Now that's an idea, but I don't think she'd fall for it ! If she's going to get wet, then so am I !

  8. The Dog's walk with me gets done first thing in the am - come before sunrise, frost, rain, snow or sciatica. After we are free to lunch out and then veg. out.

    1. I'm at the 'veg out' point of the day right now. The soup and wine were good. The dog will have to wait for his walk. Oh, I forgot, there is no dog.

  9. It has been a bitterly cold day here in North Yorkshire but the sun has shone from a clear blue sky and I must say that makes me feel a lot brighter

    1. Not at that time of day. And I wouldn't roll the rug back.

  11. It looks like Nancy was trying to shoot the Pigeons. My youngest (Wills) is a Tai Chi person. He did think of leading early (pre-work) Summer sessions under the new 'Halle' in Lumberjack. Of course he's never here.

    1. Ducks. There are ducks on the lake. She misses every time.

  12. I went to tai chi evening classes. I preferred the 15 minute warm up exercises to the tai chi itself and at first thought they were the tai chi. I thought, this is good. Then it turned into something different and I got confused.

  13. What is a fake zebra as compared with a real zebra? Is a fake zebra a white donkey on which black stripes have been painted?

By the way, in my humble opinion, there's plenty of point in walking without a dog but I agree that fine days are best. Take your camera and walk over the fields and lanes to Hilmarton, Heddington or Compton Basset... or drive out to The North Downs - so many beautiful walks to undertake. You are very lucky to live so close to such wonderful and interesting countryside.

  14. You're right, there is some beautiful countryside here. However, the footpaths are hard to find and have often been reduced to a muddy quagmire at this time of year. I know we should make more effort, maybe when the weather warms up.
