Eating Like a Thug

Sarah and Andy have another ten days before they return from their epic trip to India.  They are currently staying at some retreat on the edge of the Himalayas; they are going on a tiger safari this evening.  They appear to be having a wonderful time and Indian food has clearly been a highlight for them as it suits their vegan diet.

Back in Sydney, Paul and I have been experimenting with vegan cooking to expand our limited repertoire of recipes.  Thug Kitchen, a book I found in Sarah’s bookcase, is written in a somewhat contrived expletive-ridden language but it does contain many interesting recipes and the writers do manage to convey an energy and passion for cooking.  So last night I tried out the mango curry.

My verdict:  It's a fairly standard vegetable curry but the mango and lime juice that is added just before serving gives it a fresh citrussy flavour that truly raises its game.  I reckon I can give those Indian curries a run for their money.

It really looked and tasted better than this!

  1. Do you know that real Buddhists are carnivores and it is only their western counter parts that are not ?

  3. Do you think that Delia could (or should) reprint her books and update by putting a couple of 'fu***ngs' on every page?

    1. That would be so funny but I just can't see Delia dropping her head girl image and using bad language.

  4. Thug Kitchen? I expect the chef to be wearing knuckledusters and a leather jacket. God help the sous chef! He'll be screaming when his head is brutally squeezed into the microwave.

    1. It's very hard to peel a mango if you're wearing knuckledusters.

  5. I love Mangoes and I could eat them every day but so expensive here! I have tasted them ripe off the tree once; deliciously juicy, I was licking my fingers and arms!
