Lazy Sunday

Lisbeth Salander

Too hot to do any work today so I have been stretched out in the shade of the hazelnut tree with my Kindle.  I’m currently reading The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a sequel to Stieg Larsson’s famous trilogy. Written by David Lagercrantz (Larsson died in 2004) the book is a respectful homage to the original books.  My only criticism is that there are too many characters and I keep forgetting who’s who. And I can’t pronounce the Swedish names.

Such a warm day, bees buzzing away on the lavender bushes, I close my eyes and have a doze.  I feel very relaxed today as Paul is in charge of supper, he is cooking paella tonight.

Indoors in the cool now and watching the Tour de France.  Julian Alaphilippe has gone missing?  How can you go missing unless you go over the edge of the mountain.  No, he’s back, a mechanical problem. He’s the guy that got blown off his bike by a crosswind during the time trial.  Dangerous stuff this cycling lark.

  1. Ah, you have the book at last. You will not be disappointed. Sometimes I just "forget" some characters and read past them quickly! Poor Alaphilippe, he must have been sick as a chip about his breakdown and the time it took to get to him.

    1. I'm trying not to read it too quickly - I like to draw out the pleasure of good books.

    2. Trouble is your reading seems to get interrupted by the odd snooze.

  2. I've not read any of the Steig Larsson books. One of these days I shall have to remedy that.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. The Swedish version of the films (dubbed) with Noomi Rapace are brilliant.

  3. Blown off his bike? I must have missed that. I usually only watch the final 20 mins.

    1. It was during the time trial when he was riding with a rear disc wheel. The TV cameras missed it.

  4. New stage to The Tour? Rock cimbing on bikes?

    1. He said he felt like he was attached to a kite. Lucky not to have been injured.

  5. I enjoyed the trilogy - but am always dubious when a different author does a sequel.

    1. I think Lagercrantz has followed Larsson's style very well. I'm really enjoying the book.

    2. You won't notice the difference Elaine, in fact he is just as wonderful as Larsson and in a funny sort of way his writing is almost better. Have no doubt.
