Before and After Series - Kitchen

The kitchen and living area were originally divided into two small rooms, with a bedroom leading off at the side.

Present day kitchen and open plan living area

Small wooden door (shown open) closed off the stairway.  I still have that broom somewhere.
We asked the carpenter to replicate the original staircase and banister

  1. What a shame the place was left in such a state but great that you could see it's potential. We moved here at an age when we wanted No Work Required. My husband said he'd done five bathrooms ( & four kitchens) over the years and no more.

    1. Some of the restoration work had been done before we bought the place. I think my next house will be 'no work required'. But there again...

  2. How lucky you all are to live in France, and so brave to start on a house from the begining. I thought about Peter Mayles's books that i liked so much years ago.

    1. It was our dream for many years. Then I got a promotion at work and on impulse we bought this house. We consider ourselves very lucky to live here.

  3. For some reason I thought your interior was going to look something like mine. But no matter, it looks great and the stairs is good. Can we see a little bit more of the living area where the couch is please Miss?? I think my house is more rustic than yours, in the nicest possible way, South Norfolk v Perigord.

    1. You want rustic? Don't worry, I'll find you some rustic. Don't miss next week's episode.

  4. Love to see how other people have renovated old buildings, but in spite of admiring, and appreciating what has been done, we have never had a desire to do anything similar - or live in an old property.
Like potty, we, too, have reached the stage of a property with no work required, and our present home was built a few years ago, specifically to meet the requirements for our retirement years. All our homes have been new, and modern - the the last two built to our specifications.
Look forward to seeing more photos.

    1. I wouldn't want to take on another renovation but we have thoroughly enjoyed doing this place up gradually over the years. It started off as our holiday home and we just loved coming out in the summer with the kids and doing stuff to it. We spend about six months of the year out here.

  5. Our first rather 'pompous' house had been lived in about five years before we bought it. Our second house was so big it took all day to walk around it. Our present house looked rather like yours; rotting wood, rubbish everywhere, earth floor, not much roof, a two plank front door, no water or electricity, grass as high as an elephant's eye, one pear tree leaning towards the house, but with a view to die for.
